We recognize that there has been some confusion following Dr. Tharp’s passing, especially after earlier announcements about closing the Institute in late 2023. Many of you have reached out with questions about our current status, so we want to clarify: The Van Tharp Institute is fully operational and continues to serve traders around the world.
Our mission has not changed. We remain committed to carrying forward Dr. Tharp’s groundbreaking work in trading psychology, position sizing strategies, and personal transformation for traders. Over the past year, we have been working diligently to restructure the Institute, strengthen our offerings, and ensure that Dr. Tharp’s vision of “transformation through the trading metaphor” continues to inspire and guide traders for generations to come.
Why We Decided to Continue
After Dr. Van Tharp’s passing in 2022, there was a period of deep reflection about the future of the Institute. Our leadership team carefully considered a variety of paths forward, and in those difficult days, we even announced closure. At the time, it was hard to imagine the Van Tharp Institute without Van at the helm.
However, as time passed, it became clear that this was a mistake. Dr. Tharp’s body of work is timeless—his models, strategies, and teachings in trading psychology and position sizing remain just as relevant today as when he first developed them. His insights into how traders think, act, and transform are unique and unmatched. Preserving Van’s legacy became our highest priority.
We also heard from so many of you—our students, clients, and community members—who shared how profoundly Dr. Tharp’s work impacted your lives. Your stories and encouragement reminded us that his teachings are far too valuable to fade away.
Like you, we believe it would have been a true loss if Dr. Tharp’s work disappeared. His principles continue to guide traders toward greater success and personal transformation. Because of this overwhelming support—and our shared conviction that his work must remain accessible—we chose to continue.

What has changed: Exciting updates
We have worked hard to restructure and improve our content, while providing online access to all of our renowned courses and workshops, in addition to our best-selling books.
1) Courses and Workshops Are Still Available
All of our signature courses and workshops are still available for purchase. While we no longer offer live workshops via livestream as in the past, we have something even better:
- Workshops are now offered as complete on-demand video courses.
- Students get access to the same content, materials, and even bonus lessons in some cases.
- On-demand access means you can study at your own pace, review material multiple times, and learn when it fits your schedule.
- These workshops are available at special discounted prices, making them more accessible than ever before.
This new format has already been a great success, allowing traders around the world to continue learning from Dr. Tharp without time zone or scheduling restrictions.

Course Access and Renewals
Each course and workshop now comes with one full year of access from the date of purchase.
- Most students complete their courses—and review them multiple times—within this time frame.
- If you’d like more time, you can renew your access at a heavily discounted price of up to 50%, as long as you renew before the expiry date.
This ensures that students have plenty of time to absorb the material, while still keeping the system up-to-date and sustainable.
2) Van Tharp’s Books Are Still Available
You can still access Dr. Van Tharp’s complete collection of books! While we no longer ship directly from our office, all titles are available through trusted online marketplaces such as Amazon, where you can easily place your order and have books delivered right to your doorstep.

4) The Trading Simulation Game
The Van Tharp Position Sizing™ Trading Simulation Game was officially discontinued in 2023. While some traders may still have and use the tool, please note:
- It is not optimized for modern operating systems.
- We are no longer able to provide technical support.
- No new registration keys will be issued going forward.

Please note that we have discontinued personalized product support and one-on-one trading coaching due to changes in our offerings and agreements with instructors. The Van Tharp Institute is entering an exciting new chapter with a dedicated team now managing our marketing and operations, as well as a specialized technical team supporting our upgraded e-learning platform.
